About The CLC Collective

The CLC Collective is leading feminist public sociology for a new generation.

CLC Collective, LLC is a partnership of three women of color scholars who are committed to publishing creative, relatable, and engaging sociology for all ages.

Carolyn Choi, LaToya Council, and Chelsea Johnson met as graduate students through their doctoral program in sociology at the University of Southern California. They were drawn to each other by a mutual desire to engage in scholarship, activism, and service that transcended the "Ivory Tower." Most research published in academic journals is inaccessible without a university affiliation, and many scholarly books in the field are unintelligibly loaded with jargon. As researchers whose projects  rely on the generous participation of folks marginalized by race, class, gender, and citizenship status, Carolyn, LaToya and Chelsea each felt a moral imperative to create versions of their work that are widely accessible to broad audiences. The IntersectionAllies children's book is their first collaborative endeavor in this pursuit, and will be released by Dottir Press in Spring 2019.
